VACANCIES: LEGAL ASSISTANT

APPLICATIONS FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN INSTITUTE FOR DRUG-FREE SPORTS LEGAL ASSISTANT:

The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (“SAIDS”) is the national anti-doping organisation of the Republic of South Africa. SAIDS is an independent public entity (per schedule 3A of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)) based in Newlands, Cape Town. We are currently recruiting for the below-mentioned position.

Job Title: Legal Assistant
Location: Rondebosch, Cape Town
Reports to: Legal Manager
Standard Working Hours (excluding overtime): 08h30 – 16h30

Position Overview

The person will provide administrative and legal support to the Legal Department and where appropriate, its Legal Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data capturing and input of information into an online anti-doping database, the Anti-Doping Administration Management System (ADAMS).
  • Administrative tasks related to maintaining the ISO 9001 Quality System.
  • General administrative tasks and duties with respect to the Legal Department.
  • Supply chain management administration, viz., procurement for the Legal department
  • Track budget spend for the Legal Department .
  • Administrative tasks related to case file management, including preparing indexed and paginated case bundles.
  • Accurate filing and archiving of cases, doping control, and legal paperwork.
  • Draft legal notices, specific to anti-doping results management, and take minutes of meetings.
  • Collaborate with legal colleagues in preparing templates and hearing bundles.
  • Work across various legal projects, providing direct support to the Legal Manager.
  • Maintaining relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Must be proactive, articulate, resilient, adaptable, eager to continually learn and develop professionally
  • Attention to detail and must be able to conduct legal research specific to anti-doping and the sports legislative and policy framework.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Results orientated.
  • Have an understanding of both national and global Anti-Doping Rules, relevant legislation, the national sport infrastructure, and industry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Court of Arbitration for Sport, including the applicable rules.
  • Excellent communication, legal writing skills and fluent in English.
  • Knowledge, understanding and/or experience in case resolution disputes (tribunal systems).
  • Work closely with colleagues to provide legal solutions that are results management orientated.
  • Excellent time management and planning skills.
  • Advanced computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, Zoom) and typing skills. Open to embracing technology and exploring the use of AI.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • LLB Degree (or equivalent international qualification).
  • Certification in Sports Law, Sports Management or experience in Anti-Doping is advantageous.
  • Drivers license.

Remuneration:
We are offering a market related starting salary range between R250 000 – R290 00 per annum which is all inclusive of benefits viz., medical insurance, retirement annuity, group insurance, mobile phone allowance, home internet allowance.
