The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) imposed the following sanctions for the period of May 2025::
Kagiso Rabada
Cricket South Africa (CSA) | One (1) Month sanction
Protea’s cricketer, Kagiso Rabada (Mr. Rabada), was tested during the Betway SA20 T20 competition on the 21st January 2025, following the match between MI Cape Town and Durban Super Giants.
Mr. Rabada tested positive for Benzoylecgonine, metabolite of Cocaine and was subsequently notified of the allegation of his doping offence on the 1st April 2025. A provisional suspension was imposed and Mr. Rabada returned immediately to South Africa from India.
Article 10.2.4.1 of the SAIDS Anti-Doping Rules state that, if the athlete can establish that any ingestion or Use occurred out-of-competition and was unrelated to sport performance, then the period of Ineligibility (sanction) shall be three (3) months. In addition, the period of Ineligibility calculated under this Article 10.2.4.1 may be reduced to one (1) month if the Athlete satisfactorily completes a Substance Abuse treatment program approved by SAIDS.
The Player was offered an opportunity to complete a substance abuse treatment program. After Mr. Rabada satisfactorily completed two sessions of his treatment program, his provisional suspension ended which also meant that there was no need for his matter to be adjudicated before an Independent Doping Hearing Panel. The Player has effectively served the one (1) month period of Ineligibility which commenced on the 1st April 2025.
This matter has been Publicly Disclosed in accordance with Article 14.3 of the SAIDS Rules.
