Recent Doping Cases / Sanctions imposed in SA

RECENT DOPING CASES / SANCTIONS IMPOSED IN SA

 

The SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) imposed the following sanctions during the period of {April 2022 – November 2022}:

 

  • A twelve  (12) month sanction from all sport on the Athletics South Africa (ASA) athlete, Martinique Potgieter following an anti-doping rule violation. Ms Potgieter tested positive for the presence of Cathine. Her period of ineligibility began on 24th June 2022 (from the date of accepting optional provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 24th June 2023.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the Athletics South Africa(ASA) athlete, Deline Mpiti following an anti-doping rule violation. Ms. Mpiti tested positive for the presence of Stanozolol and its Metabolites 3’hydroxy-stanozolol, 4β-hydroxy-stanozolol, 16β-hydroxy-stanozolol. Her period of ineligibility began on 30th May 2022  (the date she was notified of her provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 30th May 2025.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the Athletics South Africa (ASA)athlete, Khutso Rasaka following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr.Rasaka tested positive for the presence of Stanozolol and its Metabolites 3’hydroxy-stanozolol, 4β-hydroxy-stanozolol, 16β-hydroxy-stanozolol. His period of ineligibility began on 6th June 2022  (the date he was notified of his provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 6th June 2025.

 

  • A two (2) year sanction from all sport on the Athletics South Africa(ASA) athlete, Duran Faro following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Faro tested positive for the presence of Methylphenidate and its Metabolite, Ritalinic Acid. His period of ineligibility began on 11th July 2022  (from the date of accepting optional provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 11th July 2024.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the a Zimbabwean bodybuilder, Masimba Nyamajiwa, following an anti-doping rule violation at The Arnold Classics Africa in June 2022. Mr. Nyamajiwa tested positive for the presence of Stanozolol and its Metabolites 3’hydroxy-stanozolol, 16β-hydroxy-stanozolol and Furosemide. His period of ineligibility began on 15th July 2022 (the date he was notified of his provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 15th July 2025.

 

  • A four (4) year sanction from all sport on the International Federation Bodybuilding South African (IFBBSA) bodybuilder, Nicolette Nair, following an anti-doping rule violation. Ms. Nair tested positive for the presence of Stanozolol and its Metabolites 3’-hydroxy-stanozolol, 16β-hydroxy-stanozolol//Mesterolone M1(3α-hydroxy-1α-methyl-5α-androstan-17-one and Mesterolone M2 (1α-methyl-5α-androstane-3α-17β-diol)//Metenolone and its Metabolite, 3α-hydroxy-1-methylene-5α-androstan-17-one (Metenolone M1)// Tamoxifen and its Metabolite, 3-hydroxy-4-methoxy-tamoxifen//Oxandrolone Metabolites, 17β-hydroxymethyl-17α-methyl-18-nor-2-oxa-5α-androsta-13-en-3-one(Ox M1), 17α-hydroxymethyl-17β-methyl-18-nor-2-oxa-5α-androstan-13-en-3-one(Ox M2). Her period of ineligibility began on 15th July 2022 (the date she was notified of her provisional suspension ) and will serve until and including 15th July 2026.

 

  • A four (4) year sanction from all sport on the International Federation Bodybuilding (IFBB) the Russian athlete, Tatiana Altergod- Alerborm, following an anti-doping rule violation at The Arnold Classics Africa 2022. Ms. Altergod- Alerborm tested positive for the presence of Oxandrolone and its Metabolites, epi-oxandrolone and 17α-hydroxymethyl-17β-methyl-18-nor-2-oxa-5α-androstan-13-en-3-one(Ox M2). Her period of ineligibility began on 15th July 2022 (the date she was notified of her provisional suspension ) and will serve until and including 15th July 2026.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the  South African Powerlifting Federation (SAPF) athlete, Hercules van den Berg, following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. van den Berg tested positive for the presence of Oxandrolone and its Metabolites, epi-oxandrolone, 17β-hydroxymethyl-17α-methyl-18-nor-2-oxa-5α-androsta-13-en-3-one(Ox M1), 17α-hydroxymethyl-17β-methyl-18-nor-2-oxa-5α-androstan-13-en-3-one(Ox M2)//GW1516 Metabolites GW1516 sulfone, GW1516 sulfoxide//Tamoxifen Metabolite, 3-hydroxy-4-methoxy-tamoxifen//Clenbuterol//1-androsterone(3α-hydroxy-5α-androst-1-ene-17-one)//Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone and its Metabolites, 6β-hydroxy-DHCMT(4-chloro-6β,17β-dihydroxy-17-methyl-androst-1,4-dien-3-one),DHCMT-M3(4α-chloro-18-nor-17β-hydroxymethyl, 17α-methyl-5α-androst-13-en-3α-ol)//Mesterolone Metabolites, Mesterolone M1(3α-hydroxy-1α-methyl-5α-androstan—17-one and Mesterolone M2 (1α-methyl-5α-androstane-3α-17β-diol//Metandienone and its Metabolite 6β-hydroxy-metandienone. His period of ineligibility began on  24th May 2022 (the date he was notified of his provisional suspension) and will serve until and including  24th May 2025.

 

  • A three (3) month sanction from all sport on the South African National Archery Association (SANAA) athlete, Richard Anderson, following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Anderson tested positive for the presence of Cannabinoids/Carboxy THC (The concentration is 292ng/ml which exceeds the decision limit of 180ng/ml. His period of ineligibility began on 16th June 2022 (the date he was notified of his provisional suspension) and will serve until and including  16th September 2022.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (MMASAPRO) athlete and EFC fighter, Tumisane Madiba, following a second anti-doping rule violation within period of 10 years, Madiba was sanctioned for a period of 12 months in 2017.  In 2022, Mr Madiba tested positive for the presence of  cannabinoids/carboxy THC (concentration of 828ng/ml exceeded decision limit of 180ng/ml). His period of ineligibility began on 19th October 2022 (from date of final written decision) and will serve until and including 19th October 2025.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the South African Rugby (SAR) player, Sifiso Blessing Magwaza, following an anti-doping rule violation at SA Schools Craven Week. Mr. Magwaza tested positive for the presence of Metandienone Metabolite, Metandienone LTM (17β-OH-methyl-17α-methyl-18-nor-androst-1,4,13-triene-3-one. His period of ineligibility began on 4thAugust 2022 (the date he was notified of his provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 4th August 2025.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the South African Rugby (SAR) player, Khoitsimodimo Mathibedi, following an anti-doping rule violation at SA Schools Craven Week. Mr. Mathibedi tested positive for the presence of Metandienone metabolite metandienone LTM (17β-OH-methyl- 17α-methyl-18-nor-androst-1,4,13-triene-3-one). His period of ineligibility began on 22nd August 2022 (the date he was notified of his provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 22nd August 2025.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the South African Rugby (SAR) player, Andre Gerber, following an anti-doping rule violation at Varsity Cup level. Mr. Gerber tested positive for the presence of Oxandrolone Metabolites, 17β-hydroxymethyl-17α-methyl- 18-nor-2-oxa-5α-androsta-13-en-3-one (Ox M1) and 17α-hydroxymethyl- 17β-methyl-18-nor-2-oxa-5α-androsta-13-en-3-one (Ox M2). His period of ineligibility began on 19th September 2022 (the date he was notified of his provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 19th September 2025.

 

  • A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the South African Rugby (SAR) a minor (protected person) player, following an anti-doping rule violation. The minor tested positive for the presence of 19-norandrosterone. Their period of ineligibility began on 19th September 2022 (the date of notification of provisional suspension) and will serve until and including 19th September 2025.

 

  • A reprimand issued to the Lifesaving South Africa (LSA) a minor (protected person) athlete, following an anti-doping rule violation. The minor tested positive for the presence of Prednisone and its Metabolites, Prednisone. Their period of ineligibility has been eliminated.
